The P147 notch plate firmly holds the sliding gear in place. To do this, two tapered bolts hold the plate within the housing to keep it from rotating. Over time the sliding gear, uh, slides and wears the teeth. You can flip the plate ONCE so that the plate can be reusued, so that the sharp side is towards the shifter. Mine has a good side, so will use this option. You can plainly see the wear side of mine.You can also see how this plate mounts into the housing.
