Grease Versus Oil

The story was that my Ruckstell spent 50 years of its life laying in a barn.  Regardless, a poor choice by a prior owner turned out to be the reason it was in such good shape.  They used standard rear end Model T 600 w rear end sticky grease, which is a really bad choice for a Ruckstell.  But it was a real good choice if you are storing a Ruckstell in a barn, as it coats all the parts - and they stay coated.  Sort of like storing a gun in Cosmoline.  This is probably a major reason the gear pin holes are worn out, grease never got in there to keep them lubricated.  Rear end oil is the proper choice for a Ruckstell, not tar.
