Ketchup Trick - Results

Overnight soak removed the black tarnish and left a matte finish.  A bit of rouge on a wheel, and hand applied brass polish, I guess we can say the ketchup trick works!  On Brass anyway.  It worked, but not as impressively on Bronze.
